The Republic of Finland is a sovereign Nordic country located in northern Europe. Finnish specialties include Kalakukko - a thick rye loaf stuffed with lake fish, Karjalanpiirakka - a savory pastry stuffed with rice pudding and eaten with egg butter, Lihapullat - beef and egg meatballs, traditionally served with lingonberries and gherkins, Poronkaristys - sautéed reindeer, and Pullat - cardamom flavored buns, the traditional accompaniment to coffee.

Transport Information

Finland’s national airline is Finnair, but there are flights available with many other European airlines. The typical flight time from London to Helsinki is 3 hours and from New York is 8 hours. There are rail-sea links to Finland via Copenhagen and Stockholm and several trains run daily from Helsinki to St Petersburg and Moscow. Car ferries sail daily to Finland from Stockholm and other Swedish ports, as well as from the Estonian port of Tallinn.
