Sofia is the capital and largest city of Bulgaria and the 15th largest city in the European Union. It is located in western Bulgaria, at the foot of Mount Vitosha, and is situated close to the center of the Balkan Peninsula. Visitors to Sofia will be enthralled by its winding streets, century-old commercial quarter, tree-lined boulevards, and balconied buildings designed by 19th-century Russian and Viennese architects. There are open-air cafés in the park, and a vast bazaar offering an array of pickles and farm produce. New designer boutiques are located in the city’s center.

Business Information

Sofia is the economic heart of Bulgaria. This city is home to most major Bulgarian and international companies that operate within the country. Electronics production is important to Sofia’s economy, including the manufacture of household appliances, computers, CDs, telephones, and medical and scientific equipment. Sofia is becoming an outsourcing destination for multinational companies, among them IBM, Hewlett-Packard, SAP, Siemens, and Software AG. Entertainment And Dining Out

Most of Bulgaria’s leading performing arts troupes are concentrated in Sofia. Theatre is by far the most popular form of performing art in the country, and theatrical venues are among the most visited entertainment venues, second only to cinemas. The oldest theatrical venue in the city is the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, which hosts mainly classical plays and is situated in the very center of the city. Motto is a cavernous restaurant, featuring brick walls and dark wooden floors. The cuisine is international, veering towards modern European. Menu items include tuna skewers with sushi risotto, honey-baked goat’s cheese salad, and a good range of pasta. Comfy sofas and designer décor turn it into a trendy cocktail bar late into the night. The Dream House might be difficult to find, located inside a small shopping arcade. But this is one of Sofia’s few vegetarian restaurants and is well worth seeking out.
