Ashgrove is an inner suburb of Brisbane, Australia. This bedroom community is situated in the state of Queensland, just 4 km (2 miles) north-west of Brisbane’s city centre. Ashgrove is a green and residential suburb, made up of hilly terrain. The ‘Ashgrovian’ homes were built in the early 20th century and most are detached, single dwelling houses. There are also many historic ‘Queenslander’ homes in the area. Ashgrove is situated next to the Enoggera Barracks (also known as Gallipoli Barracks). This is an Australian Army base established in the early 20th century; however the area has been used by military units since the mid-1800s. The modern military base is home to units of the 7th and 11th Brigades and is the headquarters of the 1st Division and the 16th Aviation Brigade.
